Energy Star Appliances
Did you know that according to the U.S. Department of Energy, appliances account for roughly 17% of our home’s energy consumption, and refrigerators, washers, and dryers are the biggest users of electricity? It is important to keep two things in mind when it’s time to shop for appliances, these are: the actual purchase price and the second is the energy cost associated with operating the appliance during its lifecycle. The energy cost is what we actually pay every month as part of our utility bill for the life of the appliance, depending on how long we keep it. The key here is to look for the big yellow ENERGY STAR label on the appliance, which also estimates the annual operating cost of the appliance.
