Property Description

Country living in style! Secluded grand colonial on six acres in the heart of the Warwick woodlands just minutes from Greenwood Lake and the NJ Boarder.

This fabulous four bedroom colonial is perfect for a large or growing family, both inside and out. Its six acres of woodlands and manicured lawns provide both sun and shade for unlimited outdoor fun. The highlight is the home’s secluded backyard patio, with large heated pool, landscaped gardens and play areas. A spacious downstairs recreation room with wet bar opens onto the pool/patio, perfect for entertaining large groups or accommodating family events.

The main level has a formal foyer, living room and a spectacular great-room, with soaring 20-ft. tray ceilings, bright glass walls and a beautiful fieldstone fireplace. A large kitchen adjoins the great-room, and features loads of pantry and cabinet storage, a modern reach-through refrigerator/freeze, plus a butler’s pantry. The laundry/mud-room connects to a large two-car garage with automatic doors and workshop area.

Upstairs, the impressive master bedroom with attached bath and walk in closet overlooks the backyard garden and pool. A second bedroom features two walk-in closets plus access to more storage in the unfinished attic. It also has an enclosed office/study area that provides an undisturbed work environment.

The home is heated with a combination of gas forced air and an efficient 11-zone radiant heat system. It allows the owner to control radiant heat to any combination of rooms as needed, without wasting energy on unoccupied areas.

The recreation room downstairs has ample space for storage and leisurely living. A cozy bar area near the patio walk-out features a lit wet-bar and back-bar area for easy entertaining. A full bathroom with shower gives swimmers a convenient changing room before and after using the pool. A built-in fireplace completes the cozy atmosphere in a space that has more than enough room for family fun.

About Warwick

Michael Newhard, Mayor of Warwick, says that a hothouse of perfect conditions helped Warwick develop its upscale, yet open and creative climate. "The town is well known but far enough away from major highways, keeping it protected yet in the public eye. People see it as a safe harbor for freedom of expression," said Newhard.

Warwick's tie to Manhattan, first as a choice location for summer homes, drew famous people like actors Gloria de Haver and Richard Kiley, and Hudson River painter, Jasper Cropsey. Its agricultural history fostered wide-open spaces and mansions, and its proximity to New York City allowed the flow of goods along what was once the King's Road during colonial times. In more modern times, visitors flock to the area for its many lakes and vacation spots. Greenwood lake is nearby, and has fishing, boating and entertainment throughout the season.

Main Street becomes a shopping wonderland in Warwick.

A hundred years later, Warwick became a town and is listed as a Historic District on the National Register. There are three villages: Warwick, Greenwood Lake and Florida. They are all finally understanding their diversity. There are five hamlets: Pine Island, Bellvale, Amity, Edenville and New Milford. A plethora of quaint and curious stores and restaurants are found throughout the area, providing plenty of interesting shopping and entertainment. Nearby is one of the nation’s few surviving outdoor drive-in movie theaters, still going strong during warmer months with three screens showing multiple feature-length movies.

The Arts in Warwick
Artists come to Warwick and Vernon for affordability and proximity to the city, and for the quality of life they offer. Life here is scenic, quaint and quiet. The atmosphere is inspiring. Like the mayor's hot house, the conditions were perfect for the outlying counties, including Orange and Sussex, to be able to sustain artists. "It would be sad if we became suburbanized and artists couldn't afford to live here any more," says Newhard. "The Town and the Village make attempts to keep the process slowed so development happens in the best way. We work very hard to retain agriculture and open space."

Area Downhill and XC Skiing

Sussex County, NJ and Orange County, NY offer nearby facilities for anyone looking to slide down a slippery slope. Beginners, experts, kids and adults will all love the skiing available at Sterling Forest, Mt. Peter, Mountain Creek, Hidden Valley and High Point Cross Country Ski Area. Even if there's no snow in your own backyard, you can bet you'll find lots of it here. The area's natural endowments - slopes with majestic views and the right conditions to make snow - grabbed the attention of major corporations that established the region as a skiing/winter destination.

Close to Warwick is Sterling Forest Ski Center, a family-oriented downhill ski and snowboard slope in Tuxedo. Sterling Forest skiing is close to the city and New Jersey - it's even handy for a day trip. It has a shop, cafeteria, cocktail lounge and a Bunny Hill with a net across padded poles to catch beginners. Mt. Peter in Warwick is also nearby.
